FACULTY OF ENGINEERING JANABADRA UNIVERSITY PROFILE

Brief history

Janabadra University is located in Yogyakarta, a student and cultural town in the heart of Java Island, Indonesia. It was established in 1958, thirteen years after Indonesia’s independence and becomes one of the oldest universities in the country. The university was founded by a group of Indonesia’s independence leaders and intellectuals, based on nationalism and patriotism spirit.

Vision

Our university envisions being a high-achieving, future-oriented and competitive university, with nationalism as its fundamental value. Nationalism means that the university acknowledges the diversity of Indonesia (in term of religions and ethnic groups) and the equal rights of all the citizens to pursue higher education in Janabadra University.

Missions

Janabadra University has several missions as follows:

  1. Committed to deliver graduates with high intellectuality, professionalism, leadership and nationalism spirit to develop the nation
  2. Conduct researches and community services to contribute to science and sustainable development
  3. Disseminate knowledge, wisdom and technology to improve social welfare of the nation and the world in broader sense

 


 

CIVIL ENGINEERING

Programs:

Our undergraduate programoffers a wide range of accredited programs: structural engineering, transportation engineering, water resources management, environmental engineering, geotechnical engineering and construction management.

Research priorities:

The program is driven by the need to understand the impact of infrastructure developments to the environment and associates it with the selection of sustainable technologies and sustainable construction materials. Interdisciplinary research approach has been conducted in the field of sustainable development. In addition to that, natural disaster mitigations (e.g. earthquake, flood and tsunami) in construction become our mainconcerns.

Prospective graduates:

Our department produces graduates with applicable and analytical skills. Training, courses and internships concerning professional aspects of engineersare conducted to enable our graduatesto solve complex problems in their field. Our department has excellent networking to the work markets and certified civil engineering associations in the national level, which enable our graduates to start their carrier immediately.

 

MASTER PROGRAM IN CIVIL ENGINEERING

Programs:

Our master program offers a deepen-structured knowledge in: structural engineering, transportation engineering, water resources management and construction management.

Research priorities:

It is widely acknowledged that many civil infrastructure systems(e.g. water supply, wastewater facilities, highways, bridges and building) particularly in developing countries are not functioning anymore after a certain period of time. These problems might occur due to the inappropriate selection of the technology in the beginning of the planning, but as well as lack of know-how in the maintenance. Therefore our master program emphasizes our researches on the selection of the appropriate technology for a given context, sustainability analysis and management of infrastructure maintenance.

Prospective graduates:

Within the master study, our students are exposed to several areas of specialization according to their interests. Links for internship and carrier development with local infrastructure service providers and research centers are developed to enable our students and graduates to get connected with the work markets, as practitioners or researchers.

 

MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

Programs:

Mechanical engineering department (undergraduate course) covers theoretical and applied mechanics in its program. The department has three concentration programs, namely: mechanical planning and construction, manufacturing process and production system, energy conservation and turbine technology and metallurgy.

Research priorities:

The department emphasizes research and innovation on applied technology, particularly for rural area and medium-sized enterprises (e.g. agriculture and its machineries, water supply technologies and manufactures). Energy conversion from biomass and waste to support national program on energy independency becomes the main research mainstream at the moment.

Prospective graduates:

Our graduates are exposed to many field experiences during their study. Therefore they are familiar to human-oriented technologies in mechanical and manufacturing engineer. Our department has very close links to centers for community services and developments agencies.

 

INFORMATICS ENGINEERING

Programs:

Informatics engineering department (undergraduate course) offers two accredited study programs, namely: information system and computer system. These programs offer course materials, laboratory works and diverse of learning activities..

Research priorities:

Our department strengthens the competencies in business and administration infromation Technology (IT) based system for young entrepreneurs. Meanwhile IT and communication system acceleration development for rural and remote areas become the crucial issue in the country.

Prospective graduates:

The core competencies offered in the program provide our graduates with high applicable skill in information and technology. They are encouraged to start up their own IT business and become young entrepreneurs through several trainings offered. As the department has strong networking to many IT-based companies, our graduates have chance to pursue their carrier in the companies.
